CUSTOMER SPARK #26 - THE NICKEL TOUR

We give tours all the time at sparkspace. We love giving tours. It's always fun to watch people's reaction as they walk through the most exciting retreat center on the planet for the first time.

Lots of people want to come and take a look around. Some of them are meeting coordinators who are planning a meeting. Others are people who have just heard about us and had to see us for themselves. We love them all, and we'll give a tour to anybody.

We just discovered another type of person who really enjoys our tour: the first timer. Katie, our director of lasting impressions, noticed a guest kind of poking around our lobby, just sort of looking around. When Katie approached her, she found out that the guest had never been here before. Katie offered her a tour. The tour took all of 5 minutes, but no-doubt made a much longer impression on the guest.

What made this one of our favorite sparks:
This spark was a great example of shifting our attention to the guest to figure out what would make their experience better and engaging them to offer the completely unexpected gift of a tour. It gave us a chance to make a guest feel a bit like a VIP since we dropped what we were doing and took the time to give her the tour. It made us recognize that even the people who are already here might want to see more than just the room they're using for their meeting.
